Davidson Named Player of the Week

With averages of over 20 points and five rebounds a game, Navy's Courtney Davidson was named Patriot League Player of the Week Monday by the league office.

During the three-game span in which the award encompassed, Davidson (So., New Oxford, Pa.) averaged 20.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, shot 58 percent from the field (18 of 31), 64 percent from behind the three-point line (11 of 17), and converted all but one of her 15 free throw attempts.

Davidson played just 20 minutes in Navy's Dec. 19 game against Maryland-Eastern Shore due to her recovery from an ankle injury, but still scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds in her limited court time. The following night in the title game of the Navy Classic against Winthrop, Davidson tied a tournament record with five three-point field goals and scored 19 second-half points on her way to a 25-point outburst. Afterwards, Davidson was named to the Navy Classic's All-Tournament Team.

She again had a strong second half in Navy's victory at Columbia this past Saturday, scoring 20 of her game-high 26 points after intermission, while also totalling a game-high six rebounds. During one stretch of the second half, Davidson hit back-to-back three-pointers which tied the game and gave Navy the lead for good, then immediately forced a steal and fed teammate Bryanna Herring for a layup.

On the season, Davidson is averaging 19.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, is shooting 45 percent from the field, 52 percent from three-point land, and is leading the Patriot League with a free throw percentage of 92 percent. She also ranks second on the team with 21 assists and 16 steals.

Navy has won its last six games and has posted an 8-3 record in the season. The Mids will return to action Wednesday when they play host to Valparaiso in a 5:15 p.m. game at Alumni Hall.
