Navy Wrestling To Host East Stroudsburg Saturday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy wrestling team will play host to East Stroudsburg Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in the multi-purpose gym in Halsey Field House.

"This is our first home dual match, so I am excited to give the local fans the opportunity to see the Midshipmen compete," Navy head coach Bruce Burnett said. "It is always an important event when we wrestle a conference team. It is important for seeding at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championship, and it is also an opportunity to test yourself to see how much you have improved. Our goal is the NCAA Tournament, so we have to keep improving until then."

Navy (3-1) is led by team captain Mark Conley (Sr./Exton, Pa.) and Steve Kovach (Jr./Parkesburg, Pa.). Conley is ranked fourth nationally in the 141-pound weight class and Kovach is ranked 18th in the heavyweight division in InterMat's latest top-20 individual rankings. Conley leads the Mids in victories with 16, while Kovach is second with 14.

Junior Jim Letchford has also wrestled well for the Mids, posting a 12-4 record in the 174-pound weight class.

East Stroudsburg (2-0) scored lopsided victories over American International College and Wagner College in its first-two dual matches of the season Dec. 1. Senior Dan Roy is 6-0 in the 174-pound weight class, while senior Marc Bauknecht is 5-1 in the heavyweight division for the Warriors.

Navy leads the overall series, 7-0. The Mids captured a 29-7 victory in Annapolis in 1996.
