Mids Whip East Stroudsburg, 41-3

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy wrestling team scored a dominating 41-3 victory over visiting East Stroudsburg University Saturday evening at Halsey Field House.

"It was a good way to go in to the Christmas break and a nice way to start our home dual meet season," Navy head coach Bruce Burnett said. "I was looking to see the guys come out aggressive and get a lot of takedowns. I was pleased with their aggressiveness and the way they competed hard."

Navy's Luke Lazzo (Jr./Rochester Hills, Mich.), Sam Gray (Fr./Essex, Vt.), Thayer Paxton (Fr./Meyersdale, Pa.) all scored victories via pin fall, while team captain Mark Conley (Sr./Exton, Pa.) and Mike Bigrigg (Sr./Santa Ana, Calif.) scored a pair of wins by technical fall.

In the heavyweight division, Steve Kovach (Jr./Parkesburg, Pa.) broke open a tight match in the second period against ESU's Marc Bauknecht en route to a 11-1 victory.

Mike Simon (Jr./North Canton, Ohio) picked up his third win of the season for the Mids with an 11-5 win over Josh Thompson in the 133-pound weight class.

Freshman Pat Lukanich (LaGrange, Ill.) scored a two-point takedown with 23 seconds remaining to defeat Keith Kleckner in the 149-pound weight class.

Mike Carbonaro (So./Blairstown, N.J.) followed Lukanich's win with an 11-7 victory over the Warriors' Matt Dudeck in the 157-pound weight class.

Navy returns to action Dec. 29 when the Mids travel to the Wilkes Tournament in Pennsylvania, while selected members of the squad will compete at the prestigious Midlands Tournament in Skokie, Ill.
