Bucknell Outshoots Navy

Bucknell scored 15 of the game's final 19 points to defeat the Navy women's basketball team, 69-52, Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall in Annapolis, Md.

Bucknell (9-6, 2-0 Patriot League) scored the final six points of the first half to take a 30-26 lead over Navy (8-7, 0-2) into the locker rooms at halftime. Navy closed the margin to two points after Alison Luchsinger (So., Lusk, Wyo.) scored on a layup during Navy's first offensive possession of the second half, but the Bison responded by going on a 17-6 run to take a 47-34 lead with 12:36 to play.

Navy crept back into the game and closed to within 54-48 on a pair of Bryanna Herring (So., Columbia, Md.) free throws with 4:19 left in the game, but the Navy offense would be able to convert only four free throws over the remainder of the contest.

Navy shot 24.1 percent from the field in the second half and just 28.8 percent for the entire game. Meanwhile, Bucknell converted 45.5 percent of its shots after halftime and made 40.9 percent of its field goals attempts during the entire game. Navy committed 16 second half turnovers and 27 in the game, while Bucknell turned the ball over just 20 times on the afternoon.

Despite playing without the services of frontcourt player Adrienne Roseti due to a leg injury, Navy was outrebounded by just one, 43-42.

Herring led Navy with 10 points on the afternoon, while Courtney Davidson (So., New Oxford, Pa.) scored nine points and Abi Campbell (Fr., Richmond, Va.) had eight points and a game-high eight rebounds. Bucknell had five players score in double figures, led by 16 from Molly Creamer.

"We just didn't shoot the ball well today," said Navy head coach Joe Sanchez. "We had many good shots, including some off of our 15 offensive rebounds, but we just couldn't find a way to get the ball to fall for us."

Navy will play host to Lehigh Wednesday night at 5:15 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
