Lehigh Survives Navy Rally

Navy's women's basketball team rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to take the lead, but in the end dropped a 52-51 decision to Lehigh, Wednesday night in Alumni Hall.

Navy's (8-8, 0-3) offense struggled in the first half, scoring a season-low 19 points and shooting just 24.2 percent from the field. Patriot League leading scorer Courtney Davidson (So., New Oxford, Pa.) picked up a pair of fouls in the first two minutes of the game and was forced to spend the remaining 18 minutes of the half on the bench as Navy trailed the Mountain Hawks (6-10, 2-1) at the break, 31-19.

Lehigh led by as many as 13 points in the second half before Navy started its comeback. The Mids eventually took a three-point lead at 49-46 with just under six minutes to play in the game. The lead changed hands three times in the last six minutes, with Lehigh taking a 52-51 lead on a Billi Ford field goal with 1:19 to play. Navy had several opportunities to take the lead, including the last shot of the game, but fell short.

Navy's defense held Lehigh to just 21 points in the second half and to 28.6-percent shooting after halftime.

Bryanna Herring (So., Columbia, Md.) had 21 points and blocked a career-high four shots in the game for Navy, while Catherine Dunn (So., Aberdeen, N.J.) scored a career-high 10 points for the Mids. Adrienne Roseti (So., Williamsville, N.Y.), in her first game back after missing the last four due to a lower leg infection, totaled seven points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes of action.

"We just didn't shoot the ball well tonight," said Navy head coach Joe Sanchez. "We have no complaints about the shots we had. They were good, open shots. They just were not falling for us."

Navy will take to the road for its next contest, a Saturday afternoon game at Colgate. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m., with WNAV-AM 1430 providing live coverage.
