Navy to Face Bucknell in Tournament Opener

The Navy women's basketball team will play Bucknell in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament, Friday at 5 p.m. at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md.
The Midshipmen concluded league play with a 5-9 record and are seeded seventh in the field, while the Bison placed second in the league with an 11-3 mark.
Friday's contest marks the third meeting of the season between the two schools, with Bucknell winning each of the previous games. In games that were closer than the final score indicated, Bucknell defeated the Mids 69-52 in Annapolis, as well as 83-71 in Lewisburg. In the first meeting, the Bison scored 15 of the game's final 19 points to put away the Midshipmen. In the rematch in Lewisburg, Navy held a five-point lead at halftime and would extend its advantage to nine points in the second half before the Bison erupted for 20 unanswered points and the victory.
Navy has posted an 8-10 record in Patriot League Tournament play, including a 6-4 mark in quarterfinal round games. The Mids and the Bison have met just once before in a tournament game, with No. 2 seed Bucknell defeating No. 7 seed Navy, 62-43, in the quarterfinal round of the 2000 tournament in Easton, Pa.
The winner of Friday's game will play the winner of the Lehigh (No. 3) vs. Army (No. 6) game, Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The championship game will be played Wed., March 6 at the home of the highest-seeded team in the title tilt.
