The Navy rifle team prepared for the upcoming NCAA Championship by competing in the Middle Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship, Saturday at Lexington, Va.
In the smallbore event, Navy defeated Coast Guard, 2299-2242, then narrowly edged Norwich in air rifle, 1539-1525. Individually, Marta Jung (So., Reno, Nev.) repeated her air rifle title with a score of 391, and Bill Tolson (Sr., Oak Harbor, Wash.) and Matt Albright (Fr., Shelton, Conn.) both shot a score of 576 in smallbore, two points in back of top-shooter Vincent Jansen of Coast Guard.
"We shot pretty well today," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "Our scores were right in range with how we have been shooting recently. We now are looking forward to the NCAA Championship."
Navy qualified as a team for the NCAA Championship in both the smallbore and air rifle events. The championship will be held March 15-16 in Murray, Ky.
