Davidson Ranked Among Final National Statistical Leaders

Navy sophomore guard Courtney Davidson ranked eighth in the country in free throw percentage, according to the final NCAA statistics released this week.
Davidson (So., New Oxford, Pa.), who was named First-Team All-Patriot League this season when she became just the second player in Navy history to lead the Mids in scoring as both a freshman and a sophomore, connected on 89.7 percent of her free throws this season, sinking 122-of-136 attempts from the foul line.
Among the players who finished ahead of Davidson, only two made and attempted more free throws than Davidson. Sue Bird, a member of Connecticut's undefeated national championship basketball team, led the country in free throw percentage with a mark of 94.2 percent. The remaining players in the top 10 were Kandi Brown from Mississippi (93.7%), Jennifer Mitchell from Loyola (Md.) and Carey Sauer from San Francisco (91.8%), Sarah Judd from Oakland (91.2%), Shaquala Williams from Oregon (90.8%), Brooke Armistead from Austin Peay (89.9%), Davidson, Laurie Koehn from Kansas State (89.5%), and both Stephanie Schmitz from Drake and Amy White from Stetson (89.5%).
In addition to ranking eighth in the country, Davidson's percentage also set new Navy and Patriot League single-season records. She broke Patti LiPoma's 1988 Navy mark of 85.4 percent, as well as the previous Patriot League standard of 88.7 percent, set by Fordham's Denise Hammersley in 1994. Davidson also holds the Navy career free throw percentage record, having made 84.5 percent (191-of-226) of her attempts in her first-two seasons.
Davidson also finished the season ranked 25th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage with a mark of 40.5 percent (64-of-158). At various times during the season, Davidson was ranked among the national leaders in both scoring and in three-point field goals made a game.
As a team, Navy ranked 39th in the country in free throw percentage with a mark of 73.9 percent, which broke the Navy record of 71.5 percent set during the 1998 campaign. In addition to Davidson, seven other Mids connected on at least 70 percent of their free throw attempts this season, including Alison Luchsinger (So., Lusk, Wyo.) (81.6%), Juliann Flacke (Jr., Schenectady, N.Y.) (80%), Lauren Zapf (Jr., Cumberland, Md.) (77.8%), Nikki Curtis (Fr., Annapolis, Md.) (75%), Bryanna Herring (So., Columbia, Md.) (73.1%), Maile Shimoda (So., Orange, Calif.) (72.6%) and Abi Campbell (Fr., Richmond, Va.) (71.4%).
