Pair of Navy Grads Compete on All-Navy Hoops Team

A pair of Academy graduates helped lead the All-Navy women's basketball team to a second-place tie at the recent Armed Forces Championship held in Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa.
Lt. Adria Schneck-Scott, a 1997 graduate of the Naval Academy, as well as Lt. Jenna Hausvik, a '94 grad, both played for the All-Navy team which was coached by Helen Williams, a member of the Academy's women's basketball coaching staff.
For the second-straight year, Navy ended the double-round robin tournament tied for second place with Air Force. Both teams finished the tournament with 3-3 records, with each team losing twice to Army, beating the Marine squad twice, and splitting the two games played against each other. Whereas in 2001 Navy won the second-place tiebreaker over Air Force due to scoring more points in the two head-to-head meetings, Air Force was awarded second place this year thanks to outscoring Navy by one point in their two contests (150-149).
Army won the championship for the 11th-straight season with a perfect 6-0 record, while the Marine squad was winless in its six games and placed fourth.
Navy was well represented on the tournament's all-star teams, with Lt. Sarah Goldman and RP3 Hazel Carrington both garnering all-tournament team accolades, and Hausvik, Carrington and Goldman all being named to the All-Armed Forces Team. Hausvik, Carrington, Goldman and the rest of the All-Armed Forces Team went on to compete in an AAU tournament following the Armed Forces Games.
"We were pleased to finish one point out of the Silver Medal, especially since we were missing two key starters from last year's team," said Williams. "Heather Lee, who played the point and was named to all-tournament team last year, was on deployment this May and Annette Thurman, who started at the shooting guard position last year, was hurt this year and served as my assistant coach. Despite not having those two players we still finished with the same record as last year, which shows how we came together as a team in a very short period of time."
Schneck-Scott left the Academy as the fourth-leading scorer in Navy women's basketball history with 1,578 career points, as well as the fifth-leading rebounder in the program with 698 caroms. She remains fourth in career points, but has since dropped to seventh place in career rebounds. She is one of just three Mids to be named First-Team All-Patriot League twice in her career, having garnered the accolade in both 1995 and '97.
Hausvik connected on 51 percent of her field goals attempts as a Midshipmen, the third-highest total in Navy history. As a senior, Hausvik made 54.9 percent of shots from the field, led Navy with 402 points, and was the top rebounder on the team for the third-straight season. She ended her career ranked sixth in Navy history with 627 career rebounds, but in the years since has dropped to 12th.
