Navy Rifle Blasts Coast Guard

Annapolis, Md. -- Navy rifle picked up its seventh-straight win today with a 6146-5948 decision over Coast Guard. The Mids defeated the Bears 4603-4459 in smallbore and also took the air rifle competition by a score of 1543-1489.
Junior Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn./Christian Heritage School) led the squad in smallbore, notching an 1175 on the strength of a 399 in prone. Junior Mike Miller (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado) posted an 1153, while team captain Marta Jung (Reno, Nev./Robert McQueen) added an 1140 and freshman Chris Schneider (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) tabbed an 1135. In the air rifle, Albright tallied a 390, followed by a 389 from freshman Sarah Bergman (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill), a 383 from Miller and a 381 by Jung.
?We had good performances from our freshmen Bergman and Chris Schneider, especially in air rifle,? noted head coach Bill Kelley after the meet. ?We have a lot of work to do in the coming week before we take on Alaska and Nebraska.?
The Mids will travel to Palmyra, Pa. next weekend, where they will face off against Alaska on Saturday, Jan. 24 and Nebraska on Sunday, Jan. 25. Both matches are set to begin at 8 a.m.
