Navy Rifle Challenges Two Top Teams
Team captain Marta Jung will lead the Mids as they take on Alaska and Nebraska. |
Annapolis, Md. -- Navy rifle (7-0) will face off against the top two teams in the country as they challenge defending national champion and top-ranked Alaska on Saturday and No. 2 Nebraska on Sunday. Both matches are set to begin at 8 a.m. in Palmyra, Pa.
?[Alaska] is our big match,? said head coach Bill Kelley. ?Next to Army and the NCAA Championship, this is what we look forward to most. Alaska is the defending national champion and Nebraska is a top-ranked team as well. Army will be there too, and although we're not shooting against them, we'll all be there and we'll see each others scores and it will be competitive.?
The Midshipmen are coming off a 6146-5948 victory over Coast Guard last week, that saw junior Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn./Christian Heritage School) lead the squad with an 1175 in smallbore and a 390 in air rifle. Freshman Sarah Bergman (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) added a 389 in air rifle to help the Mids earn their seventh victory of the season.
