Three Mids to Compete at NRA Junior Sectional
Freshman Chris Schneider will compete with two teammates at the NRA Junior Sectional on Saturday. |
Annapolis, Md. -- Sophomore Billy Carson (McDonough, Ga./Henry County) and freshmen Drew Bielfelt (Alpharetta, Ga./Woodward Academy) and Chris Schneider (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) will shoot at the NRA Junior Sectional this Saturday in the Bancroft Rifle Range. The Naval Academy will host approximately 50 competitors from around the Mid-Atlantic Region for the event this weekend.
Schneider has been a valuable asset to the Mids this season, helping the Mids break the team aggregate and smallbore Academy records. Schneider set a new personal-best mark in smallbore, as he shot an 1160 against Alaska last weekend. His high mark in air rifle came against Akron in October, when Schneider posted a 393.
?Schneider is going to be very competitive in both air rifle and smallbore,? noted head coach Bill Kelley. ?With the scores he's been shooting lately, he has a very good chance in air rifle.?
A Mid-Atlantic Sectional title will be determined, and the sectional results from 300-500 competitors from around the country will be submitted to the national governing body to determine an overall champion later this spring. In 2003, Navy junior Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn./Christian Heritage School) won the NRA Junior Sectional title, shooting a new junior-national record score of 593 in the smallbore.
