Water Polo Prepares For Final Home Games
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy water polo squad faces Johns Hopkins and George Washington on Wednesday night in the final home game of the year for the Mids in a pair of important Division games. Navy enters the games with an 11-9 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in the CWPA Southern Division, Eastern Region standings. Action gets underway at 4:30 p.m., in Lejeune Hall, with the Mids battling GWU.
"First of all, these are our last two games at home, so it would be great if we can get some Mids there," said Navy head coach Michael Schofield. "They are the middle two games in a big week for us, and we need some momentum heading into the weekend. We played well last weekend, and we hope to keep it going."
Navy is coming off two strong league wins last weekend, defeating Bucknell, 12-8, and Salem International, 13-6. Alex Owre (Cottage Grove, Ore.) led the Mids with four goals in the win over Bucknell, while Alex Ratcliffe (Coronado, Calif.) and Jordan Gentry (San Antonio, Texas) each had three goals in the win over SIU. Patrick McCreary (Edgewater, Md.) also had a big day in the nets, combining for 17 saves in the two wins. Ratcliffe leads Navy with 67 points (43 g, 24 a), while Gentry has added 55 (46 g, 9 a).
"We are excited to play," said Schofield. "These will be challenging games and there is a lot of parity in the league. They both should be good games."
Johns Hopkins enters the game with a 2-6 league record, while George Washington is 1-7 in the league. Princeton leads the region with an 8-0 record.
