Walseth Added to Navy Coaching Staff

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Former Penn State standout and WNBA veteran Maren Walseth has been added to the Navy women's basketball coaching staff, it was announced recently by Navy head coach Tom Marryott.

"Maren has been a great addition to our program," said Marryott. "As a player who has excelled on the highest levels of the sport, she brings a special type of experience to our program. Her passion for the game, along with her expertise, experience and winning attitude is going to benefit us in so many ways. Maren is an excellent teacher of the game and has already made a mark in our player development in the short time she has been here."

A native of Bloomington, Minn., and a 1997 Parade Magazine High School All-America recipient, Walseth completed her four-year playing career at Penn State in 2001. She appeared in 128 games and totaled over 1,300 points and 600 rebounds in her career. A member of the Big Ten's All-Freshman Team during her rookie season, she concluded her career by being named First-Team All-Big Ten Conference as both a junior and senior and was a Kodak District All-America selection in 2001. The captain of the Nittany Lions during her final season, Walseth also was a two-time academic all-conference performer and helped lead the program to the 2000 Final Four.

Walseth was a third-round selection of the Sacramento Monarchs in 2001, played for the Washington Mystics during the 2002 season, and has been invited to training camps for the New York Liberty (2003) and Seattle Storm (2004) during her WNBA career. She also has played professionally in France and for the National Women's Basketball League's Colorado Chill.
