Navy Rifle Breezes Past Coast Guard
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Navy rifle team opened its second half of the season with an impressive showing, topping the Coast Guard, 4,624 - 4,423, in action on Saturday afternoon. The win improves Navy's record on the season to 10-0. Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn.) led the way for Navy with a strong performance in both smallbore and air rifle.
"I must commend Matt Albright on a great performance," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "He was in the 590's in both air and smallbore, which is very rare. It was good to get started the second season on the right foot."
Albright, as mentioned, had a stellar performance, scoring a 592 in smallbore and a 590 in air rifle. Kevin Wilson tallied a 572 in smallbore and a 582 in air rifle. Nicholas Hogberg had a 557 in smallbore and James Albright added a 571. In air rifle, Sarah Bergman scored a 586 and Chris Schneider added a 574.
"We are looking forward to next week, and our match with Alaska-Fairbanks," said Kelley. The Nanooks were last year's national champions. "We need to have a good week of practice and have a lot of work to do to get ready."
The Mids will host Alaska-Fairbanks at 4:00 p.m., next Friday.
