HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Colgate's Devin Deane scored the game's lone goal in the 13th minute to lead the Raiders to a 1-0 victory over Navy in the pouring rain in Patriot League men's soccer action on Saturday night. The Mids dominated the contest territorially, but couldn't get the equalizer in falling to 7-5-1 overall and 2-2-0 in league play.
Deane scored the game's lone goal in the 13th minute when he received a cross from Jimmy Stephens and stuck a shot into the corner past Navy goalkeeper Thomas Jenkins (Franklin, N.C.) for a 1-0 lead. Despite Navy outshooting the Raiders, 6-2, in the first half, the Mids still trailed 1-0 at halftime.
Play started to get chippy in the second half as both teams played a man-down due to a player from each team receiving a red card in the 63rd minute. The Mids also dominated play in the second half and had several golden opportunities in the last 30 minutes of the game, but couldn't solve Colgate's Doug Litvack. Litvack made five saves to keep the Mids at bay. Despite outshooting the Raiders, 16-1, in the second half, and 22-3 for the entire game, Navy was dealt its second Patriot League loss. Navy also drew four corner kicks to Colgate's one.
Jenkins made one save for the Mids in goal.
Navy will remain on the road next weekend with a Saturday afternoon contest against Lafayette in Easton, Pa. Action will get underway at 1:00 p.m.
