Lightweight Eight Places Second at Princeton Chase

Oct. 30, 2005

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Navy lightweight crew team completed its fall varsity season by placing a pair of its entries among the top-eight boats at the Princeton Chase, Sunday afternoon on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J.

"It was a great day for us," said head coach Rob Friedrich. "To place two boats among the top eight shows the depth of this team."

Penn won the race with a time of 13:37, with Navy finishing four seconds later to place second. After the Mids came Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Georgetown and Cornell in seventh place. Navy's `B' boat placed eighth in the race with a time of 14:01 to edge Princeton's `B' boat by tenths of a second.

"We are very happy to end our fall season with today's results," said Friedrich. "Our top boat is within reach of the other schools and I feel we can become even faster before the spring. We have 16 very talented rowers on our top-two boats and they are going to be pushing each other the whole year, which should lead to strong results for us as a team."
