ANNAPOLIS, Md. - St. Bonaventure held Navy scoreless over a stretch of 6:28 at the end of the first half and the start of the second half to pull away as the Midshipmen fell 57-48 in women's basketball action on Monday evening at Alumni Hall. The Bonnies improved to 6-2, while the Mids dropped to 5-4 overall.

After junior Betsy Burnett (New Holstein, Wis.) hit a layup in the paint to move Navy within one at 23-22 with 2:58 remaining in the opening stanza, St. Bonaventure held the hosts to field goal during the 9:54 stretch to open up a 36-26 lead.

Freshman Kalen Kropa (Reidsville, N.C.) drilled a three to end the drought with 13:04 remaining to cut the deficit to seven at 36-29. However, St. Bonaventure answered back with an Amanda Pierce jumper and led by nine or more for the remainder of the contest.

"We didn't play with the energy we needed to tonight," stated Navy head coach Tom Marryott. "We allowed St. Bonaventure to dictate the pace of the game on both ends of the floor. We failed to establish ourselves on the defense end. That has become a problem for us."

The Mids' shot only 35.2% (19-for-54) from the floor and committed 21 turnovers, 12 of which came from the Navy's post players, in leading to 19 St. Bonaventure points. The Bonnies shot at a 44.4% (24-for-54) clip for the game, including a 52.2% (12-for-23) performance in the second half to separate from the Midshipmen.

Burnett represented Navy's lone scorer in double figures with 11 points on the night. Sophomore Lauren Nelson (Plano, Texas) matched career-highs with eight points and six rebounds off the bench. Junior Margaret Knap (Chicago, Ill.) contributed with a career-best eight rebound performance in addition to tallying seven points, four steals and a block.

Stefanie Collins led all scorers with 12 points for the Bonnies, while Ashley Edwards chimed in with 11 for the guests.

The Midshipmen return to action in nine days when they host Radford in a 5 p.m. tip-off at Alumni Hall.
