Providence, R.I - After opening up a late 12-point lead the Navy women's basketball team converted five-of-six free throws in the final minute of play to hold off Providence, 67-61 Friday night at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.
"We had some great defensive stops in the second half," said Navy head coach Tom Marryott. "We forced Providence into taking some time off the shot clock and slowed down their offense. We then stepped up at the line late in the game."
Navy (4-2) took a 32-27 lead over Providence (1-5) at intermission thanks to Carly Meyer's (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) 14 first half points.
