Curtis Named Second-Team All-Patriot League

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Navy senior forward Nikki Curtis (Jacksonville Fla.), who ranks among the league leaders in scoring and rebounding, garnered Second-Team All-Patriot League honors, it was announced Tuesday by the league office.

Curtis is enjoying the finest season of her career this year. She entered her final season at Navy with 137-career points and 124-career rebounds, but has totaled 349 points and 187 rebounds this year. She is poised to become the first Mid in five years and only the eighth in school history to lead the team in both points and rebounds with current averages of 12.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Her scoring average ranks seventh in the league, while her rebounding average stands fourth. Curtis has been even better during the recently completed Patriot League season, averaging 14.9 points and 7.4 rebounds a game, averages which both rank third in the league.

Curtis shot over 50-percent from the field in 16 games this year and ended the season by scoring in double figures in 14 of Navy's final 15 games, a streak which included four double-doubles and a pair of 20-point games. Along the way she set career highs of 28 points Feb. 23 at Lafayette and 12 rebounds Jan. 21 against Holy Cross.

A member of the Naval Academy's Superintendent's List last fall, Curtis will be commissioned as a pilot in the Navy this spring.

Navy posted a 6-8 league record and received the fifth seed in this week's Patriot League Tournament. The Mids will play fourth-seeded American Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Worcester, Mass. A victory over the Eagles would advance the Mids to a semifinal contest Saturday at 1 p.m. against either top-seeded Holy Cross or the No. 8 seed Lafayette. All of Navy's postseason games can be heard live locally at WNAV-AM 1430, as well as over the internet at www.wnav.com(.)
