Navy Rifle Enjoys Stellar Season

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy rifle team concluded one of its most successful seasons in school history with a fifth-place finish at last week's NCAA Championships. The Mids finished the 2004-05 season with a 14-0 record, including a MAC Championship and wins over Alaska-Fairbanks and Army. It marked the 12th straight year that Navy defeated Army in dual-meet action.
Four athletes received All-America status it was recently announced. Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn.) earned first-team All-America smallbore and first-team All-America air rifle honors as well. Albright also earned first-team All-MAC honors in both disciplines. He was joined on the All-America team by Sarah Bergman (Fort Mill, S.C.), who earned second-team All-America recognition in air rifle. She was also an All-MAC performer in both disciplines. Mike Miller (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Chris Schneider (Fort Mill, S.C.) earned honorable mention All-America recognition in smallbore and air rifle, respectively. The duo also garnered three first-team All-MAC accolades. Lastly, Kevin Wilson (Freeport, N.Y.) earned honorable mention All-MAC smallbore honors.
The Mids will lose four athletes to graduation this year, but head coach Bill Kelley has some outstanding young shooters on the squad. Six shooters that gained All-MAC honors in air rifle and five more that earned All-Conference smallbore honors will be back.
