ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior Joshua Sink (Welcome, N.C.) placed second out of 53 runners to lead the Midshipmen to a first-place finish out of six schools in the Navy Invitational on Saturday morning at the USNA Cross Country Course. This is the second first-place showing of the season for Navy, as the Mids won the Sea Gull Opener on Sept. 3.

The Midshipmen tallied 24 points, ten fewer than preseason Patriot League favorite American who finished second. UMBC came in third (55 points), followed by Berry (123 points), George Washington (132 points) and Howard (167 points).

Sink, who received Patriot League Runner of the Week and ECAC Division I Athlete of the Week honors for his second-place showing at the Fordham Invitational last week, covered the 8K course in 25:09.40. American's Steve Halliwan paced the group of 53 runners with a time of 25:01.69.

Five other Navy runners landed in the overall top-ten to ensure the Midshipmen's first-place score. Sophomore John Kress (Colorado Springs, Colo.) landed fourth with a time of 25:32.45, followed by junior Adam Craig's (Commerce, Mich.) 25:33.56 showing, senior captain Ty Rose's (Germantown, Tenn.) effort of 25:43.03 and senior Maksudul Ali's (Clarksburg, Md.) seventh-place time of 25:44.53. Junior Michael Niemi (Duluth, Minn.) ran the 8K course in 25:50.23 to finish ninth overall for the Mids.

Sophomore Ben Kozy (Houston, Texas) also served as a placeholder for Navy, finishing in 18th-place with a time of 26:41.14. Freshman Andrew Grant (Statham, Ga.) also placed in the top-20, recording a 26:43.22 showing for 19th overall.

Navy returns to action next Saturday, traveling to Louisville, Ky., for the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park. The race is slated to start at 10:30 a.m.
