MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Junior Erin Demchko (Nanuet, N.Y.) posted Navy's best-time with a 23:28 showing as the Midshipmen placed 24th at the 20th-annual Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course.
The race featured six schools ranked in the most recent FinishLynx Top-30 rankings, with another three schools receiving votes. Arizona State, ranked seventh in the country in this week's poll, won the race with 88 points. The host Golden Gophers placed second, followed by No. 20 Baylor, Oklahoma State and No. 14 Princeton.
Demchko, who finished 150th out a field of 287 runners, led a pack of four Midshipmen that crossed the finish line within five seconds of each other. Junior Emily Castro (Centennial, Colo.) and sophomore Kyleigh Millhouse (Boiling Springs, Pa.) each covered the 6K course in 23:31, while sophomore Vicki Moore (Burke, Va.) finished in 23:33.
Sophomore Shannon Reese (Lancaster, Pa.) rounded out Navy's scoring-five with a 24:00 showing. Freshmen Sammy Jo Andrews (Pewaukee, Wisc.) and Chelsea Decker (Middlebrook, Va.) registered times of 24:15 and 24:19 to serve as Navy's placeholders.
The Midshipmen next make the first of three trips up to Lehigh's Goodman Campus this season, this for the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday at 10:45 a.m.
