Maryland vs. Navy
September 3, 2005
M&T Bank Stadium
Baltimore, Md.

Head Coach Paul Johnson:

"I'm disappointed. I thought that we had a chance to win the football game. We had several opportunities, but you have to give Maryland credit. They made some plays when they had to and we didn't."

"We had a chance. We had a chance there at the end. We got behind them twice, but underthrew it both times. We missed our opportunities."

On Lamar Owens:
"I thought he did okay. He did some things. He ran the offense fairly well. He showed a lot of courage to come back in there at the end."

"I thought the two teams played hard. I think it was clean. There didn't seem to be a lot of stuff going on. We have a lot of respect for their program and hopefully after today, they'll have respect for our program."

"We practice that all the time. A minute to go, you need a field goal to tie the game. We had a chance, we just didn't make the play."

On the 4th-and-2 play:
"It was an option. We didn't know who was going to get the ball. It was the triple option. Actually, I was going to kick the ball, but when we tried to pull them offsides, I saw the way they lined up and couldn't resist."

"They beat us up some in the second half. I think part of it was we were out there too long. We weren't doing enough offensively, and we couldn't get off the field defensively. We missed some tackles and they had some long, long drives."

#2 Lamar Owens, QB
"I gotta give credit to Maryland for a hard fought game. They played extremely well."

"Offensively, we got off to a great start. In the second quarter, we didn't cash in on some great opportunities we had with the ball deep in their territory. It came back to haunt us. If you let a great team hang around, eventually they're going to do something."

"We just stopped executing. I think it had a lot to do with me. I think I got a little too anxious once we went up two touchdowns and it took me a little while to calm back down. It the second quarter, I wasn't the same guy I was in the first."
