ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Junior Kirsten Andrews (New Holland, Pa.) won two events as the Navy women's track and field team defeated American, Loyola, Robert Morris, VCU and Winthrop on Saturday afternoon in Halsey Field House. Navy accumulated 217.5 points, followed by VCU's 90 points, Robert Morris' 52.5 points, American's 45 points, Winthrop's 36 points and Loyola's 15 points.
Andrews qualified for the ECAC Championship with her first-place effort in the 55-meter hurdles. The junior crossed the finish line in 8.21 seconds, the fastest time of her career. Andrews' effort on Saturday was only .04-second off the school record set by Danielle Still in 2004.
The junior's other victory came in the pole vault, clearing 12'3/4" (3.68 meters). It was the highest-effort for Andrews this season, and the best vault since a 12'5-1/2" (3.80 meters) showing at the ECAC Championship on March 5, 2005.
Junior Loni Forsythe (Chattanooga, Tenn.) also claimed victories in two events for the Midshipmen. Forsythe paced the competition with an effort on 7.28 seconds in the 55-meter dash. The junior also posted a time of 26.18 seconds in the 200-meter dash to claim first-place.
Senior Michelle Schiller (Glendale, Ariz.) registered the top-performance in the triple jump, soaring 37'3-3/4" (11.37 meters) to establish a new career-indoor record. Sophomore Jessica Orr (New Holland, Pa.) won the 400-meter run with a time of 1:01.18, while Navy's 4x400-meter relay unit led the field with a 4:11.38 finish time on Saturday.
Senior Cayanne McFarlane (Fairbanks, Alaska) released a career-record throw of 48'3/4" (14.65 meters) in the weight throw to earn second-place honors. Sophomore Stefanie Peskosky (Charlotte, N.C.) turned in a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:24.36. Junior Erin Demchko (Nanuet, N.Y.) also placed second in the 3,000-meter run courtesy of a 10:31.64 effort in her first-time competing in the event during the indoor season.
The Midshipmen (8-0) next head to New York City to take on Columbia, Princeton and LaSalle on Friday, Jan. 27, at 5:30 p.m.
