LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell (16-3, 7-0 in the Patriot League) held Navy (8-11, 1-5 in the Patriot League) to 28 percent (13-47) shooting from the floor and forced 26 Midshipmen turnovers as the Bison throttled Navy, 81-47, in front of a sold out crowd of 4,180 at Sojka Pavilion. Buckinell entered the game fifth in the country in scoring defense (55.7) and fourth in field goal percentage defense (.372).
"They are tough. They do things that championship teams have to do. They defend, they are tough and they share the ball," said Navy head basketball coach Billy Lange. "We have a long way to go. We are trying to rebuild a basketball program and it's going to take some time, but there is no doubt in my mind that we are eventually going to be a good basketball program again."
"I thought we did a good job defensively in the first half of taking them out of their offense and that really set the tone for the game," said Bucknell head coach Pat Flannery. "We kept our intensity in the second half and did a good job of putting them away."
The 34-point loss is the worst for a Navy team since Dec. 4, 2004, when the Mids lost to Ohio, 90-55, while the 47 points were the least by the Midshipmen since Jan. 23, 2005, when Navy lost at Army, 63-43.
Charles Lee led the Bison with 12 points and four steals, while Abe Badmus added 11 points and eight assists. Donald Brown chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.
Greg Sprink led the Mids with 16 points and Adam Teague added 10.
The Mids will be back in action on Wednesday night when they play host to Holy Cross at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
