LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell (12-7, 5-1 in the Patriot League) guards Lindsey Hollobaugh and Amanda Brown combined for 35 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists and six steals as they led the Bison to an easy 74-54 Patriot League victory over Navy (10-9, 3-3) in front of 618 fans at Sojka Pavilion in Lewisburg.
Hollobaugh led the way with a team-high 18 points and was second on the team with seven rebounds and four assists. Brown added 17 points, six rebounds and five assists. They each contributed three steals.
"Our effort was there. I don't question our effort," said Navy head coach Tom Marryott. "What I do question is our decision making. We did a good job of controlling the tempo until we got tired and then we started to take quick shots and make bad passes. Kate Hobbs getting in foul trouble also really hurt. We missed her against the press."
Navy trailed by just three points at 33-30 with 2:17 left in the first half on a Margaret Knap three-pointer, but then imploded against the Bucknell press.
Hollobaugh was fouled by Ashley Pelzek with 1:41 left in the half and made two free throws to make the score 35-30.
Hollobaugh then stole the ball from freshman Kalen Kropa and hit a jumper to put the Bison up seven and then stole the ball again from Kropa and Kesha Champion scored and was fouled by Betsy Burnett. Champion made the free throw and in less than a minute the Mids found themselves down 10.
Betsy Burnett scored on a lay-up with three seconds left in the half to cut the lead to eight, but it was as close as Navy would get the rest of the game as the Bison would never let Navy get closer than 10 points in the second half.
Knap and Burnett led the Mids with 12 points apiece. Burnett grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, while Carly Meyer added eight. Navy shot just 36 percent from the floor (21-59) and had 17 turnovers to go with 11 assists.
The Mids will be back in action on Tuesday night when they play host to Holy Cross in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Alumni Hall. The Crusaders are tied with Bucknell for first place in the Patriot League.
