WEST POINT, N.Y. - Poor starts in each of the three games resulted in the Navy volleyball team dropping a 30-17, 30-24, 30-17 decision to Army, Sunday evening at West Point. The Mids fell to 11-16 overall and 3-8 in the Patriot League, while the Black Knights improved to 18-7 and 8-3.
Navy fell behind 8-3 at the start of game one, 7-3 at the beginning of game two and 6-1 at the start of game three.
"The difference in the match was the start of the games," said Navy head coach Mike Schwob. "You can't fall behind like that on the road to a quality opponent as Army. We were fighting uphill the whole match to dig out of those holes."
In addition to outhitting Navy .294-.117 in the match, Army also totaled 10 service aces to Navy's three. Both teams tallied six blocks, while the Black Knights hauled in 56 digs to Navy's 51.
Individually, Army's Jamie Clark totaled 13 kills and just one error on 17 swings for a .706 attack percentage to lead all players, while Briana Stremick dropped in seven of Army's 10 service aces.
Navy's offense was led by Jessie Sims (So., Etowah, N.C.) with nine kills, while its defense was paced by Aimee' Burns (Jr., Dallas, Texas) with 16 digs and Megan Boyd (Sr., Richmond, Va.) with four blocks.
The Mids will next be in action Friday when Navy plays host to American in a 7 p.m. match in Macdonough Hall.
