Two Navy Boats Among Top Five at Princeton Chase

Oct. 29, 2006

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Navy lightweight crew team had two eight-boats place among the top five finishers at the Princeton Chase on Sunday at Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J.

"I think it's a very good accomplishment to have two boats finish among the top-five," stated Navy head coach Rob Friedrich. "I think it showed the depth of our top end. There were some rough conditions and it a hard-fought race."

With a stiff headwind and a considerable chop in the last mile of the race, the Navy 'B' boat posted a time of 14:25.91 to finish second among 30 boats, finishing only 0.17 second behind Cornell. The second-place showing by the Midshipmen matched its best performance at last year's Princeton Chase.

Navy's 'A' boat soon followed in fifth place with a time of 14:43.93, while the Navy 'C' boat completed the race with a 15:12.96 clocking in 15th place.

Only the eights were able to compete on Sunday, as the strong winds forced the cancellation of the fours race.

"I am very proud of how they raced in the rough conditions today," stated Friedrich. "It was a good way to stack up with the rest of the league. I think these are very good results to finish off the fall season."

Navy's freshmen will finish out the fall season at the Belly of the Carnegie on Sunday, Nov. 12, in Princeton, N.J. The Midshipmen will kick off their spring slate at Princeton on March 24.
