ATHENS, Ohio -- A 15-3 run midway through the first half helped spark Ohio to a 72-49 victory over the Navy women's basketball team, Friday night at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio. The game was the first of the season for both teams.

"It was a very disappointing performance for us tonight," said Navy head coach Tom Marryott. "We continually allowed Ohio to dictate the game to us on both ends of the floor."

Navy's struggles started towards the very beginning of the game. After the Mids took a 9-8 lead on an inside bucket from Lindi Conner (Jr., Kingman, Kan.), the Bobcats scored the next six points as part of a 15-3 run to give Ohio a 23-12 advantage midway through the first half.

The Ohio advantage would reach a high of 13 points in the first half at 31-18 before the teams went into the locker rooms at intermission with Navy trailing 38-26.

The Mids converted only one fewer field goal than Ohio did in the first half, but the Bobcats made six three-point field goals and free throws while Navy tallied just one of each.

Navy would climb no closer than 11 points in the second half and trailed by as many as 29 points with a little more than two minutes to play.

Navy turned the ball over 22 times in the game while forcing Ohio into only 10 turnovers.

Four players scored in double figures for Ohio, with Rachel Frederick and Domenica Silva each tallying 16 points in the win. Margaret Knap (Sr., Chicago, Ill.) led Navy with 12 points, the lone Mid to reach double digits in scoring, while Carly Meyer (Sr., Orlando, Fla.) totaled seven points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Navy will return to Annapolis to open its home season Sunday at 2 p.m. against Marshall.
