SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Massachusetts shot 56 percent from the field to open up a 28-point halftime advantage and record an eventual a 62-41 victory over the Navy women's basketball team, Friday night at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J.

Navy fell to 0-3 on the year with the loss at the Seton Hall Basketball Classic, while Massachusetts improved to 3-0.

The Mids will play Howard Saturday at 1 p.m. in the consolation game of the tournament, while the Minutewomen will face the tournament-host Pirates at 3 p.m. in the championship game.

Seton Hall recorded a 66-47 victory over the Lady Bison in Friday's opening game.

"We missed some good looks at the basket early on, then became tentative on offense," said Navy head coach Tom Marryott.

It was another night of struggles for the Navy offense, especially during the opening 20 minutes of the game. The Mids misfired on 10 of their first 12 shots from the field and turned the ball over seven times to fall behind 23-6 midway through the first half. The Mids would eventually convert just 7-of-24 shots (29.2%) from the field in the first half, with Betsy Burnett (Sr., New Holstein, Wis.) sinking all four of her attempts, and committed 12 turnovers to trail 44-16 at intermission.

The Minutewomen, meanwhile, turned the ball over only four times and made 17-of-30 shots from the field, including 4-of-8 from behind the three-point line, in opening up the large halftime advantage.

Navy's offense found a little rhythm in the second half, while its defense tightened. The Mids converted 30.3 percent (10-of-33) of their shots in the second half, while holding Massachusetts to just 25-percent shooting (5-of-20) and outscoring the Minutewomen 25-18 in the half.

Navy did hold a 42-31 advantage on the glass, but made only eight trips to the foul line in the game (making six) while the Minutewomen were 14-of-24 in their attempts from the charity stripe.

Kate Hobbs (Sr., Wexford, Pa.) tallied her first double-double of the season and the fifth of her career with 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead Navy in both statistics.
