WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross broke open a five-point game with a 14-0 run early in the second half on its way to a 65-47 victory over the Navy women's basketball team, Tuesday night at the Hart Center in Worcester, Mass. Navy sees its two-game winning streak come to an end with the loss as the Mids also fall to 12-12 on the season and 5-6 in Patriot League games. The Crusaders improved to 12-12 on the year and 8-3 in league play with the win.

"We were very inconsistent on offense tonight due to how we handled the pressure defense of Holy Cross," said Navy head coach Tom Marryott.

The two teams combined for 22 turnovers during the first half, with Holy Cross shooting 36.8 percent from the field and Navy connecting on 33.3 percent of its shots. The Mids actually made more field goals during the first half, 8-7, but the Crusaders went into halftime holding a 24-19 leads thanks to making 8-of-10 free throws as compared to Navy's 1-of-2 shooting from the line.

Navy's Carly Meyer (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) made a jumper nearly four minutes into the second half to keep the deficit at five points, then missed a jumper a few minutes later which would have cut the margin down to three points.

Brittany Keil and Ashley McLaughlin each connected on three-point field goals on the next two Holy Cross possessions, sandwiched around another Meyer miss, to ignite the Crusaders on their 14-0 run which gave Holy Cross a 44-25 lead with 11:16 left to play.

Holy Cross made 5-of-7 shots from the field and a pair of free throws during its 14-0 sprint, while Navy missed three shots and turned the ball over four times during this time span.

From there, Navy could pull no closer than 13 points, with the largest Holy Cross advantage being 23 points.

The 47 points scored by Navy is the lowest for the Mids during a Patriot League game since scoring 42 points in a 51-42 loss to American Jan. 13, 2004.

Four players scored in double figures for the Crusaders, with Keil's 12 pacing Holy Cross. Navy's Meyer totaled 13 points to lead all players in the game.

The Crusaders shot 51.7 percent from the field in the second half and 45.8 percent for the game, with Navy making a respectable 45.5 percent from the field after halftime and 39.1 percent for the game.

Holy Cross connected on 15-of-17 free throw attempts on the night, while Navy made just 6-of-12 shots from the line.

Navy turned the ball over 23 times while forcing 18, with the Crusaders also holding a 34-28 advantage on the glass.

With just three games remaining during the regular season, Navy will remain on the road for a Saturday game at Colgate. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m., with the broadcast on WNAV-AM 1430 and www.wnav.com scheduled to start at 3:45 p.m.
