ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy junior Kirsten Andrews (New Holland, Pa.) set a league record in the 55-meter hurdles as Navy finished third in the 2006 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Navy in Halsey Field House on Sunday.

Bucknell won the championship for the fifth-straight year, accumulating 190 points over the three days. Army placed second with 122 points with Navy following close behind with 117 points. Lafayette totaled 83 points for fourth place, while American finished fifth with 40 points, Lehigh came in sixth with 32 points, Colgate followed in seventh with 22 points and Holy Cross rounded out the field with 14 points.

"Bucknell had solid performances across the board and had incredible depth," stated Navy head coach Carla Criste. "We had some great performances today, but it just was not good enough to win the meet."

Andrews defended her 2005 Patriot League title and smashed the league championship record in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.05 seconds. The junior surpassed her previous career-best in each of the prelims, semifinals and finals during the championship. Andrews also earned Second-Team All-Patriot League accolades in the pole vault on Saturday as she cleared 12'3-3/4" (3.75 meters).

Junior Danielle Still (Lawnside, N.J.) accounted for 28 of Navy's 117 points this weekend, with 24 coming in Sunday's action. Still also broke the previous Patriot League Championship record in the 55-meter hurdles, immediately following Andrews with a time of 8.08 seconds. Less than a half-hour later, Still came back to lead Navy to a second-place effort in the 55-meter dash with a clocking of 7.37 seconds. The junior concluded her day with a career-best time in the 200-meter dash, recording a mark of 25.87 seconds to finish second in her third-event of the day. On Friday, Still placed fourth in the pentathlon (55-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800-meter run) with 3,263 points.

"Kirsten and Danielle were incredible this weekend," Criste said. "They were both tremendously focused throughout the entire meet. Danielle showed her tenacity in being able to compete in four events and the pentathlon over the three days."

The Midshipmen distance medley relay also posted the fastest time on Sunday. Freshman Maureen Dooley (Durham, Conn.), sophomore Lauren Burmeister (Brownsdale, Minn.), sophomore Vicki Moore (Burke, Va.) and junior Erin Demchko (Nanuet, N.Y.) combined to post an ECAC qualifying time of 12:06.28.

"Our distance medley relay was our culminating highlight of the weekend," commented Criste. "The time was posted by some competitors that have not seen much action in the event this year. I am really proud of them."

Junior Priscilla Lewis (St. Andrews, Jamaica) provided Navy with six points in the 55-meter dash with a third-place time of 7.40 seconds. On Saturday, Lewis shattered her previous career record in the 55-meter run twice with times of 7.34 and 7.33 seconds during the prelims and semifinals, respectively.

Senior indoor captain Yasmin Sauls (Raleigh, N.C.) set a career record in the 200-meter dash courtesy of a 26.13-second showing in the finals to place sixth. Yesterday, senior outdoor captain Cayanne McFarlane (Fairbanks, Alaska) finished second in the 20-lb. weight throw with an ECAC qualifying distance of 53'4-1/4" (16.26 meters).

"I was truly inspired by our captains performances," said Criste. "They both scored and set the pace by establishing new career records in their events this weekend."

The Midshipmen also had two of their own score in the triple jump on Sunday. Senior Michelle Schiller (Glendale, Ariz.) recorded a distance of 36'4-3/4" (11.09 meters) to finish fourth, while junior Jessica Goetz (Collegeville, Pa.) soared 35'2" (10.72 meters) to score a point in sixth-place.

Navy next heads on the road in two weeks for the ECAC Championship in Boston on March 4-5. The Midshipmen look to use the meet as their final chance to qualify for the NCAA Championship in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 10-11 and improve upon last year's 20th-place finish among 48 scoring schools.
