BOSTON - Sophomore Vicki Moore (Burke, Va.) came in second-place in the 1,000-meter run on Sunday as the Navy women's track and field team finished with 16 points to place 19th among 50 scoring schools at the ECAC Championship held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center.
Georgetown won the 2006 ECAC Championship with a team score of 65 points over the weekend. Northeastern came in second with 49 points, followed by Boston University's 45 points in third place.
Moore finished only .04 second behind the first-place finisher in the 1,000-meter run with a career-best time of 2:52.80. The sophomore smashed her previous career mark by 3.29 seconds, which she set at the Armory Invitational on Jan. 27. Moore's time on Sunday was less than a second off the school record held by Erin O'Marr in the 2000 season.
Junior Kirsten Andrews (New Holland, Pa.) finished eighth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.78 seconds. Andrews bested the previous Academy record in the 60-meter hurdles held by her and classmate Danielle Still (Lawnside, N.J.) during the prelims on Saturday with a clocking of 8.76 seconds.
Navy's distance medley relay unit of freshman Maureen Dooley (Durham, Conn.), sophomore Lauren Burmeister (Brownsdale, Minn.), Moore and junior Erin Demchko (Nanuet, N.Y.) finished in 13th place with a 12:07.00 showing.
Senior outdoor captain Cayanne McFarlane (Fairbanks, Alaska) uncorked a toss of 49'6-1/4" (15.09 meters) in the 20-lb. weight throw to finish 23rd overall.
Yesterday, junior Justine Whipple (Duxbury, Mass.) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship on March 10-11 in the 5,000-meter run with a school-record time of 16:40.86.
The Midshipmen open their 2006 outdoor season in Point Loma, Calif., on March 18, at the Point Loma Invitational.
