PHILADELPHIA - Navy women's track and field junior Kirsten Andrews (New Holland, Pa.) qualified for the NCAA Regional in the pole vault as the Midshipmen competed in five events at the 112th Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
Andrews cleared 12'5-1/2" (3.80 meters), a career-high mark, in the pole vault to place fourth overall and advance to the national regional on May 26-27.
Joining Andrews in the top 10 in the pole vault was sophomore Jacquelyn Charnigo (Medina, Ohio). Charnigo tied her career-best effort with a 11'11-3/4" (3.65 meters) vault to place seventh overall on Thursday.
Navy's 4x100-meter relay team of Andrews, junior Priscilla Lewis (St. Andrews, Jamaica), senior Yasmin Sauls (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior Danielle Still (Lawnside, N.J.) produced a 46th-place time of 48.09 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay of sophomore Taren Burkett (Virginia Beach, Va.), sophomore Lauren Burmeister (Brownsdale, Minn.), sophomore Vicki Moore (Burke, Va.) and Lewis combined for a 3:58.84 clocking to place second in their heat.
The Midshipmen had two throwers compete in the hammer throw on Thursday. Senior team captain Cayanne McFarlane (Fairbanks, Alaska) placed 21st with a toss of 156'7" (47.74 meters), while freshman Meg Joyce (West Kingston, R.I.) came in 23rd with a 154'4" (47.04 meters) mark.
In addition, Still competed in the javelin championship, recording a distance of 129'1" (39.34 meters) to finish in 11th place.
The Midshipmen return to action with the Patriot League Championship in Worcester, Mass., on May 5-6.
