Navy Crew Ends Regular Season with Sweep

May 14, 2006

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Navy lightweight crew team concluded its regular season by sweeping four races from Penn and Delaware Sunday morning on the Schuylkill River.

"It was a hard fought varsity race," said Navy head coach Rob Friedrich. "It was very good preparation for next week at the Eastern Sprints.

"Our freshman boats have continued to gain speed throughout the season and it was nice to see them and the second varsity boat end the regular season undefeated."

Navy's varsity boat posted a time of 5:28.3 to top second-place Penn by 2.5 seconds and third-place Delaware by 13.1 seconds. The victory improves Navy's record to 7-1 on the season, with the only setback for the crew coming in a three-second loss to Yale during the second week of the season.

Navy boats placed first and second in the junior varsity race, with the second varsity boat winning in a time of 5:35.6 and the third varsity crew placing second with a clocking of 5:38.1.

The Mids also won the two freshman races by a combined 29 seconds.
