PRINCETON, N.J. - Navy women's track and field junior Kirsten Andrews (New Holland, Pa.) broke her school record in the 100-meter hurdles as the Midshipmen tallied 18 points to finish in 18th place at the ECAC Championship in Princeton's William Weaver Track and Field Stadium this weekend.
Pittsburgh won the ECAC Championship with a team score of 87 points, followed by Virginia's second-place 68 points and Cornell's 64 points for third place.
Andrews became the first person in program history to complete the 100-meter hurdles in less than 14.0 seconds on Sunday during the finals. The junior was second to cross the finish line with a time of 13.95 seconds, .07 second faster than the previous school record she set last weekend at the Patriot League Championship. Andrews also placed 12th in the pole vault with a height of 11'5-3/4" (3.50 meters) on Saturday.
In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Michelle Bostic (Rockwall, Texas) earned a spot in the finals and finished eighth on Sunday. During the prelims one day earlier, Bostic posted a career-best time of 1:00.87 to place seventh on Saturday.
On Friday evening, junior Justine Whipple (Duxbury, Mass.) earned All-East honors for her fourth-place time in the 10,000-meter run. Whipple completed the event in 35:30.02, the fastest time of her career and less than one-half minute off the school record.
Navy's other scoring came in the javelin throw on Saturday from junior Danielle Still (Lawnside, N.J.). One week after breaking the school and Patriot League Championship record in the event, Still uncorked a toss of 138'6" (42.21 meters) to finish fifth.
The Midshipmen placed among the top 15 in two other events this weekend. Sophomore Jacquelyn Charnigo (Medina, Ohio) cleared 11'5-3/4" (3.50 meters) in the pole vault for 14th place. Navy's 4x800-meter relay of sophomore Joanna Clark (Harpersferry, W.Va.), junior Erin Demchko (Nanuet, N.Y.), sophomore Stefanie Peskosky (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore Vicki Moore (Burke, Va.) also finished 14th with a time of 9:31.25.
Midshipmen that either won an event at the Patriot League Championship or met the regional qualifying standards will head to the NCAA East Regional Championship on May 26-27 in Greensboro, N.C.
