GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Navy women's track and field team wrapped up its outdoor season at the NCAA East Regional Championship on Saturday afternoon at North Carolina A&T's Irwin Belk Track.
Junior Kirsten Andrews (New Holland, Pa.) and sophomore Jacquelyn Charnigo (Medina, Ohio) competed in the pole vault on Saturday. Andrews finished in a tie for 16th place after clearing 12' (3.66 meters) in her second try. Andrews barely clipped the bar in her third and final attempt at 12'6" (3.81 meters). Charnigo was unable to surpass the 12' (3.66 meters) starting mark and did not place for the Midshipmen.
Yesterday, Andrews placed 32nd in the preliminary round of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.64 seconds. Andrews became the first Midshipman since the NCAA added regional championships in 2002 to compete in two events at the NCAA East Regional Championship. Junior Danielle Still (Lawnside, N.J.) finished 21st in the javelin throw on Friday with a distance of 129'1" (39.34 meters).
The Midshipmen posted a perfect 5-0 record during the 2006 outdoor season, highlighted by a 104-99 N-Star win at Army. Navy also finished second at the Patriot League Championship and 18th at the ECAC Championship.
