Navy Soccer Wins Third Straight, Turns Back Stetson, 1-0

DELAND, Fla. - A corner kick by freshman Cassie Barbaresi (Bradenton, Fla.) set up the game-winning score by sophomore forward Sam Schroth (Chester Springs, Pa.) in the 31st minute, as the Navy women's soccer team defeated Stetson, 1-0, in Deland, Fla. Friday evening. The Mids are now 3-0 and have yet to surrender a goal to their opponents.

Navy earned back-to-back corners in the 30th minute and it was the second in which Navy was able to get a handle on. Barbaresi's corner sailed in the direction of freshman defender Shelly Moeller (Milford, Ohio) who got a head on it and steered it towards sophomore forward Kristen Laraway (Long Valley, N.J.). Laraway was able to get a piece of the ball with her foot, but it was Schroth who sent the ball into the back of the net and scored her first-collegiate goal.

The Mids outshot the Hatters 13-4, including an 8-0 advantage in the second half. Of its eight second-half shots, five were on goal, as Stetson keeper April Eilering had her hands full with the Midshipmen. Navy sophomore keeper Lizzie Barnes (New Orleans, La.) made two saves en route to posting her second shutout of her young career.

The Mids return to action Sunday evening when they meet Jacksonville (2-1), who is coming off a double-overtime win over La Salle on Friday night. The Mids and Dolphins are slated to play at 5:00 pm on the campus of Stetson.
