PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Navy women's track & field senior team captain Kirsten Andrews (New Holland, Pa.) qualified for the ECAC Championship in the pole vault as the Midshipmen competed at the non-team scoring UMES Invitational at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center on Saturday.
"We had a pretty decent meet for this time of the year," stated Navy head coach Carla Criste. "I was quite impressed at the condition of how our seniors came back in shape over the break."
Andrews posted the top-collegiate performance in the pole vault, second-best among all competitors, with her height of 12'0" (3.66 meters). The senior finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.97 seconds and ran the opening leg of Navy's 4x400-meter relay.
Andrews, Priscilla Lewis (St. Andrews, Jamaica), Abby Gesecki (Nanticoke, Pa.) and Jessica Orr (New Holland, Pa.) combined for a heat-winning time of 4:05.58.
Navy's distance medley relay team of Vicki Moore (Burke, Va.), Orr, Caitlin Rummel (Falmouth, Mass.) and Erin Demchko (Pearl River, N.Y.) combined for a second-place time of 12:41.60. Demchko also placed third in the 800-meter run with a 2:21.78 clocking.
Junior Stefanie Peskosky (Charlotte, N.C.) came in third during the mile run with a time of 5:31, while classmate Jacquelyn Charnigo (Medina, Ohio) produced a third-place height of 5'4" in the high jump.
Junior Kyleigh Millhouse (Boiling Springs, Pa.) and freshman Jenny Rubin (Papillion, Neb.) finished among the top-five in the 3,000-meter run. Millhouse placed third with a time of 10:40 and Rubin followed in fourth with a 10:45 clocking.
Rounding out Navy's top-five performances on Saturday were seniors Loni Forsythe (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Danielle Still (Lawnside, N.J.). Forsythe placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.82 seconds and Still landed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 38'9-1/2".
The Midshipmen will return to Annapolis to host their final home meet of the indoor season on Saturday, Jan. 20, against George Mason, Loyola (Md.), Mount St. Mary's, Robert Morris and VCU. The action at Halsey Field House is scheduled for 3 p.m.
