CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- For the second time in as many weeks and the third time this season, Navy's Carly Meyer (Sr., Orlando, Fla.) has been selected as the Patriot League's Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The announcement was made Monday by the league office.
Meyer led Navy in scoring in both of its victories last week over American and Colgate, posting a scoring average of 15.5 points a game over the two games. She shot 42.3 percent (11-of-26) from the field and 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from behind the three-point line, while averaging 7.5 rebounds a game. She rounded out her 14-point performance against the Eagles with nine boards, three assists, three blocks and four steals, then scored 17 points and grabbed six caroms against the Raiders.
This season Meyer ranks second by three-hundredths of a point to Army's Cara Enright for the league's scoring lead (15.31 to 15.28 points per game), while also ranking third in the conference in both rebounds (7.5 rebounds per game) and three-point field goals made a game (2.16).
She has totaled 952 points and 518 rebounds during her career, while ranking fourth in school history with 86 career blocks and seventh with 121 career three-point field goals made.
Meyer joins Adria Schneck as the lone Mids during Navy's 16-year membership in the Patriot League to garner player-of-the-week accolades three times during one season. Schneck originally achieved the feat during the 1995-96 season.
Additionally, Meyer's four career nods ties her with Courtney Davidson (Class of 2004) for second place for the most weekly accolades in Navy history. Schneck's five weekly laurels from 1995-97 remains the school standard.
Finally, Meyer, Schneck and Laurie Coffey (1998) are the only Mids to have been tabbed as the league's player of the week in back-to-back weeks.
Navy's two wins during the final week of the regular season allowed the Mids to move into a fourth-place tie with American in the final standings with a 6-8 league record. The Mids lost the tiebreaker to the Eagles, however, so Navy will enter the league tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 American in a quarterfinal round game Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Navy's Alumni Hall.
