CHESAPEAKE BAY, Md. -- The Navy offshore sailing team fielded five Midshipmen crews in the NASS Spring Regatta this Saturday on the Chesapeake Bay off Annapolis, with all five crews finishing in the top seven.
Navy crews took the top two spots in PHRF Class A0. James Lawsing led his 12-man crew aboard Polaris to a 38-second victory over Tomcat, another Navy boat, which was skippered by Chris Hamilton. This was the first competition of the season for both crews.
In PHRF Class A2, Mark McClure led his team aboard the Navy 44, Swift, to a respectable fifth place out of nine competitors. Ryan England, skippering Navy 44 Flirt, was sixth and Thomas Oberdorf was seventh. This was the first race that each of the Midshipman participated in as skipper.
VOST will enter two crews in the Annapolis NOOD Regatta this coming Friday through Sunday.
