ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy offshore sailing team wrapped up a banner fall season by placing second this weekend at the 2025 Kennedy Cup in Annapolis, Md., finishing just two points shy of capturing college sailing's big-boat national championship.
Â
With the Midshipmen hosting a 10-team field in Annapolis, Saturday's racing saw variable conditions with a breeze coming from the east-northeast and velocity everywhere from 10 - 20 knots. Teams had to stay on their toes and shift gears throughout the day to be successful, with Navy closing Saturday just one point behind first-place College of Charleston after five races.
Â
Sunday featured a light breeze that forced a delay, but the wind filled out from the north-northeast to allow one more race to be sailed. In such light air, the fleet compressed and shuffled positions several times with a different leader for each leg of the race, as Brown was able to get into clean air downwind and claim the final race of the regatta. The result found Charleston holding onto its overall lead and repeating as Kennedy Cup champions, with the Mids finishing two points behind the Cougars and earning national runner-up status for the second-straight year and the third time in four seasons.
