PHILADELPHIA - Navy women's track & field senior Kirsten Andrews (New Holland, Pa.) etched her name in the program's all-time annals in three events as the Midshipmen competed at the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday through Saturday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
Two weeks after breaking the school record in the pole vault, Andrews tied the fourth-highest bar in school history with a height of 12'9-1/2" (3.90 meters), a NCAA-qualifying mark, to finish fifth on Thursday morning. She came back with seniors Priscilla Lewis (St. Andrews, Jamaica), Loni Forsythe (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Danielle Still (Lawnside, N.J.) to post a school-record time of 1:42.42 in the 4x200-meter relay on Saturday. One hour later, Andrews, Still, junior Sabrina Gambill (Bridgewater, Mass.) and junior Michelle Bostic (Rockwall, Texas) combined for an eight-place showing of 59.75 during Navy's first running of the event in program history.
Navy's 4x800-meter relay of junior Stefanie Peskosky (Charlotte, N.C.), junior Vicki Moore (Burke, Va.), senior Erin Demchko (Pearl River, N.Y.) and senior Caitlin Rummel (Falmouth, Mass.) teamed up for a 9:08.94 clocking to finish in 13th place. Their time was less than three seconds off the 10th-fastest time in school history.
The Midshipmen will return to action next weekend when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., for the 2007 Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Navy was picked to finish second in this year's preseason poll, voted on by the league's coaches and sports information contacts.
