Navy Places Third at Fordham Invitational

Sept. 8, 2007

BRONX, N.Y. - Navy men's cross country runner John Olsen (Sr./Staten Island, N.Y.) led the team with a fifth-place time as the Midshipmen finished third out of 22 teams at the Fordham Invitational on Saturday morning at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.

The Midshipmen accounted for five of the 20-fastest times on the day in totaling 56 points, only 14 more than team champion Penn and six higher than second-place Princeton. DePaul finished fourth with 160 points and Stonehill rounded out the top five with 162 points.

Navy has finished third or better in each of its previous four trips to the Fordham Invitational in program history.

Olsen, who produced the team's fastest mark at last year's Fordham Invitational, crossed the finish line in 26:36. Team captain John Kress (Sr./Colorado Springs, Colo.) immediately followed with sixth-place showing, an identical 26:36 clocking, before Bill Prom (Jr./New Berlin, Wis.) placed seventh with a time of 26:37. Ben Kozy (Sr./Houston, Texas) finished 18th with a 27:14 clocking and Chris Horel (So./Belford, N.J.) rounded out the scoring five with a 27:16 effort for 20th place.

Navy will return to Annapolis to host its lone home meet of the year, the Navy Invitational, next Saturday at 10 a.m. on the USNA Cross Country Course.
