FAIRFAX, Va. - For the fourth-consecutive year on Sunday, the Navy men's lightweight crew team recorded first-place performances in the championship-eight and -four races at the Occuquan Challenge at Sandy Run Regional Park.
I am very pleased by how the team as whole, preformed today," stated Navy head coach Nick Baker. "To finish have our three eights finish 1, 2 and 3 in the championship category is great. More importantly than how we finished is some of the things that we learned today by putting ourselves into a race situation. This is a great building block for our next three weekends of racing.'
The Midshipmen recorded the top-three times in the championship-eight race. Navy's fastest boat completed the 5,000-meter race in 13:45.3567, followed by its second-place time of 14:11.8467 and its third-place clocking of 14:31.4600.
In the championship-four event, Navy produced the first, second and fourth-best times of the day. The fastest vessel completed the race in 15:33.3967, while the second-best time was a 16:07.0933 showing. After George Mason placed third, Navy's third boat landed fourth with a time of 16:26.6600.
The Midshipmen will return to action next Saturday when they head to the Schulykill River in Philadelphia for the Navy Day Regatta.
