May 30, 2008

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Navy women's track & field pole vaulter Jacqui Charnigo (Sr./Medina, Ohio) landed in seventh place at the NCAA East Region Championship at Florida State's Mike Long Track on Friday afternoon.

Charnigo soared over the bar set at 12'6" (3.81 meters) to tie Buffalo's Tiffany Maskulinsk for seventh place and score 1.5 points for the Midshipmen. Virginia Tech's Erin Mahony won the event with a clearance of 13'3-3/4" (4.06 meters).

The top-five finishers in the event earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 11-14.

Charnigo becomes the second Navy pole vaulter to score points at the regional championship meet. Last season, Kirsten Andrews placed eighth in the same event to claim a point and become Navy's first scorer at the NCAA East Region Championship since it was created in 2003.
