RENO, Nev. - A trio of Navy women's track and field athletes took part in the 19th annual National Pole Vault Summit over the weekend at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center
Freshman Christine Scales (Monte Sereno, Calif.) led the Midshipmen's efforts at the two-day pole vaulting showcase, clearing 10'8" (3.25 meters).
Junior Jessica Schlaegel (Nashport, Ohio) and first-year vaulter Kelli Sealover (Harrisville, W. Va.) also took part in the event, jumping 10' (3.05 meters) and 9'6" (2.90 meters), respectively.
"It was a good experience for our girls," said assistant track coach Steven Sarigiannis, who mentors the Mids' vaulters. "Anytime you have the opportunity to compete amongst the best in your sport, you will come away better for it. It was a good weekend for us, and now we're looking forward to getting back together as a team and resuming competition this weekend."
The Navy women return to action on Friday, January 9, when they head to Newark, Del. to compete at the Blue Hens Invitational.
