ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's club tennis team won all nine matches in straight sets and cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Maryland Club tennis team on Sunday afternoon. The win moves Navy's record to 1-1 overall after opening the season last weekend.

The Navy women are playing in a transitional season as it will become a member of the Patriot League and be eligible for conference and NCAA postseason play next year.

"I felt everyone played very solid today. It was a great team effort," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. "We made great progress after our first match last weekend. I am particularly encouraged because I feel we have the potential to continue to improve even more as a team."

Navy started the day off right, sweeping three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Lindsay Olsen and Julie Dias defeated the tandem of Anita and Guils, 8-4. At No. 2, Mere Wydra and Brooke Datko topped Quyumi and Patel, 8-6. Lastly, at No. 3 doubles, Kristia Suriben and Brittney Boucher routed Offutt and Simova, 8-1.

The Mids lost just 15 games in singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Brittney Boucher remained undefeated at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Giuls Kunkel. Boucher was the only Mid to win a match last week.

At No. 2 singles, Lindsay Olsen breezed past Maryam Quyumi, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 3, junior Julie Dias recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lauren Devine. Kristia Suriben defeated Shalini Patel, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 4 singles. Sarah Rowe and Rebecca Carlson then closed out the sweep in singles play, dropping a combined three games between them. Rowe topped Bethany Offutt, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 singles, and Carlson knocked off Masha Simova, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 6.

"We were very solid at every position today. Lindsay Olsen and Britney Boucher played very well today," said Puryear. "Lindsay started slowly, but once she got her teeth into the match she was a force. Britney was a little off her "A" game today, you would not know it because of the scores. She did a great job of doing what was necessary to be successful today. Everyone played well today and it was a good preparation for sectionals next week."

Navy will host the MATA Sectional Championship next Saturday and Sunday at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex.
