PRINCETON, N.J. -Navy senior Carey Young (Virginia Beach, Va.) posted the sixth-fastest steeplechase time in school history and juniors Erica Ziel (Saginaw, Mich.) and Lexa Gass (Crescent, Pa.) both earned top-15 finishes in the 10,000-meter run to highlight the women's track team's efforts Friday and Saturday at the ECAC Outdoor Championships.
Two weekends after claiming her first Patriot League title in the event, Young placed 17th overall in a competitive 3,000m steeplechase field, churning out a 10:53.02 clocking.
Her time was just 3.05 seconds off her career-best of 10:49.92, set a month ago at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational. With Friday evening's effort, Young now owns three of the top-10 fastest steeplechase times (4th, 6th, 9th) program history.
Senior Maureen Dooley (New Durham, Conn.), a three-time All-Patriot League steeplechaser, wrapped up a standout four-year track career with a 23rd place, 11:07.22 showing.
This week, both Dooley and Young will be commissioned as officers and respectively earn their Bachelor's degrees in English and international relations.
Young will continue her terrific spring season on Saturday, May 30 in Greensboro, N.C where she will compete in the steeplechase at the NCAA East Regional Championships.
Navy was also represented in the 10K race, where the third-year duo of Erica Ziel and Lexa Gass finished in 10th and 14th-place, respectively. Ziel crossed the finish in 37:50.81, while Gass came in at 38:13.93.
